How Do You Know When It’s Time to Be Still
Is being still missing from your to-do list? If you’re not setting aside time to rest, then you’re doing too much! There is such a thing as being too busy, even if you’re busy doing good. Even with the best intentions you can make yourself so busy “doing good” that you miss out on the blessings God has reserved for moments of being still. You should be regularly taking time to do nothing but be still.
Be Still and Remember Who’s Really In Control
Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.
No doubt there is much work to do in the Kingdom of God. That’s true. The lie that the enemy wants you to believe is that you alone have to do it all. That’s not true sis! Same goes for you bruh—that is not what God has for you! Busyness is a real slick trick of the enemy to get you off track. You can get so caught up looking at the long list of everything that needs to be done that you forget your place and your purpose. Don’t miss your blessing trying to keep up with the blur of busyness. God did not create you to be running around trying to save the whole world all at once, all alone. He created you to witness His Glory in all creation. Be still and remember who’s really in control: God alone. There is nothing more humbling than pausing to see all that God is doing, with and without your help. But you’ll only see His Glory when you stop what you’re doing to look around and observe.
Be Still and Remember that Even God Rests
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
Raise your hand if you have more responsibility than God…exactly. Even God rests. So, what’s your excuse? You can compare your to-do lists, but there’s no doubt that you will come up short. The Creator of this entire universe found time to be still. It’s that important. If rest is necessary and good for the all-knowing and all-powerful God, just imagine what you’re missing.
Be Still and Reap the Benefits
Moses talking to the people of Israel, just before God parted the Red Sea.
The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.
Can you imagine what would have happened if the people of Israel weren’t still in that moment? Picture them deciding to take matters into their own hands and swim through the Red Sea, just as God was pushing the water to the left and right. How ridiculous would that have been? Well, that is what we look like trying to work things out on our own effort. A lot of people think that you need to be busy working, running, chasing, striving, doing and moving constantly, if you want to be good and successful in life. That may be true some of the time, but sometimes the good stuff is just waiting for you. Waiting for you to sit still long enough so that it can reach you. Sometimes God just wants you to sit back and reap the benefits of being loved by Him.
Moment of Truth: You may not have the luxury of taking an entire day to yourself—and that’s fine! Rest looks different for everyone. It might be five minutes of reflection before lunch. It might be 30 seconds of deep breathing sitting in the car before you go into work. The point of rest is to pause and check in with God when you can. If you make good use of the little free time you have now, then God maybe reward you with more.
